Today, Kansans for Life will debut AFTERMATH, a first-of-its-kind, traveling memorial never before seen in the United States. This immersive, walk-through exhibit was created to awaken Kansans to the reality of abortion in our state and invite them to learn, reflect, and respond.
Spanning the size of a basketball court, the memorial displays 19,467 fetal models — each representing a child lost to abortion in Kansas in 2023. Alongside the display, visitors will encounter information that helps explain how Kansas arrived at this point and an opportunity to respond.
“Too often, the reality of abortion in Kansas has remained hidden,” said Danielle Underwood, Associate Executive Director of Kansans for Life. “Kansans deserve to see for themselves what is happening here, and AFTERMATH provides that opportunity in a powerful, respectful, and unforgettable way.”
AFTERMATH was created in direct response to the skyrocketing number of abortions in Kansas following the 2019 Hodes & Nauser v. Schmidt decision, which stripped away long-standing protections for women and preborn children. Since then, Kansas has become a destination for abortion. In 2023 alone:
- 19,467 abortions were reported, a 58% increase from the year before.
- 78% were performed on women traveling from out of state.
- 67% were performed using chemical abortion pills.
- 600 fully formed preborn babies were brutally dismembered
- 376 abortions were performed on minor girls, including 36 between the ages of 10-14
The tour launches today in Hutchinson and will travel across Kansas this fall, with stops in:
