(Topeka, KS — April 11, 2025): Kansans for Life is celebrating a successful 2025 legislative session with five key pro-life priorities, first outlined in January, now set to become law.
The legislature successfully overrode the governor’s vetoes of the following three measures:
- House Bill 2062, which directs courts to consider child support payments to women from the moment of conception and extends tax exemptions to parents of preborn children;
- Senate Sub for House Bill 2382, which requires schools to include scientifically accurate fetal development videos in science curriculum; and
- A line item in the state budget that includes $3 million in funding for pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes across Kansas, a $1 million increase from previous years.
“These wins will make a real difference in the lives of Kansas families,” said Jeanne Gawdun, KFL Director of Government Relations. “A pregnant mother will now have the ability to seek child support from the moment of conception, families will receive tax relief for their preborn children, students will learn the truth about pre-natal human development in their classrooms, and women facing unplanned pregnancies will have access to more resources and support to choose life for their babies.”
“While Governor Kelly rejected compassionate policies that support women, families and commonsense student education about human development before birth, the legislature chose to meet women in their time of need and stand for truth.”
These follow two other key pro-life bills signed into law earlier this session with strong bipartisan support in both chambers:
- House Bill 2307, which ensures women and families facing a prenatal or postnatal diagnosis of a chromosomal condition, such as Down syndrome, receive accurate, up-to-date, and supportive information and resources.
- House Bill 2359, which strengthens protections for individuals with disabilities by ensuring they are not denied life-sustaining care, including food, water, and medical treatment.
