Governor Kelly Vetoes Funding for Pregnancy Centers, Blocks Safeguard Against Taxpayer Dollars Going to Abortion Businesses

Today, Governor Laura Kelly line-item vetoed two pro-life provisions in the Kansas state budget: continued funding for the Pregnancy Compassion Awareness Program and a measure ensuring Kansas taxpayer dollars are not directed to abortion businesses.

The Pregnancy Compassion Awareness Program provides $3 million in funding for more than 50 pregnancy centers across Kansas that offer resources and support to women facing unexpected pregnancies.

“Governor Laura Kelly continues to prove her abortion extremism,” said Jeanne Gawdun, KFL Director of Government Relations.

“With the stroke of her pen, Gov. Kelly stripped funding from pregnancy centers that provide real help to women and families across Kansas and removed a safeguard to prevent taxpayer dollars from going to abortion businesses. These are straightforward, commonsense provisions that support women, families, and Kansas taxpayers.”

Kansans for Life urges the Legislature to override these extreme vetoes and stand firm in its commitment to protecting life and supporting Kansas families.
