Alan Weldon was the charter president of Kansans for Life from 1983 to 1985. He has been a member of the board of directors for all but three of the past 36 years. He has served as chairman since 1985.
A graduate of Georgetown University, Weldon became involved with pro-life concerns in 1973 as a member of Kansas Right to Life Affiliates and then transferred his allegiance to Life Issues Fund for Education, Inc., believing it was a more effective local group. He served as president of Life, Inc. from 1981 to 1983. During his tenure he was asked by Rosemary Maher, then president of Eastern Kansas Right to Life, to join her in starting a new statewide pro-life organization. Maher and Weldon met with Alan Hansen (Kansas City) and Joe Patton (Topeka) to incorporate Kansans For Life, Inc. on March 24, 1983. Weldon served one year (1988-89) as the KFL executive director and during that year moved the state office from Topeka to Wichita.
Weldon retired in 2013 from USD 259 as its supervisor of Property and Casualty Insurance. While active in the insurance business, he had three professional designations: Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter, Chartered Life Underwriter and Certified Insurance Counselor. Civically, he has served on the board of the Wichita CPCU Society Chapter, Kansas PRIMA and the Urban League of Kansas. Since 2000 he has been the meeting coordinator of the Wichita Area Work Comp Task Force.
