KFL Provides Initial Response to Annual KDHE “Abortions in Kansas” Report

Data shows disturbing 9% increase in Kansas abortions in 2020

 (Topeka, KS – May 29, 2021)

According to the annual Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) “Abortions in Kansas” report released yesterday, Kansas saw a 9% increase in 2020 over 2019 abortion numbers, or 626 more abortions.

This heartbreaking number comes after abortion extremist Gov. Laura Kelly used a recent state court ruling that declared a nearly unlimited right to abortion to keep Kansas abortion clinics open for business during COVID-19 stay-at-home orders. At the same time, governors in the nearby states of Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska all took a different path: they declared all elective medical procedures, including abortions, non-essential in order to protect medical personnel from unnecessary exposure and conserve needed medical supplies.

“KDHE’s report is nothing short of heartbreaking and tells us two things,” said Danielle Underwood, KFL Director of Communications, “1) Passage of the VALUE THEM BOTH Amendment in August 2022 is more important than ever. 2) Laura Kelly owns this dramatic increase and is now the “Abortion industry Governor.”

“626 more babies tragically lost than in the previous year, not to mention the violence inflicted on the mothers, comes when all of our pro-life laws are in danger of being removed,” said Jeanne Gawdun, KFL Director of Government Affairs. “This report shows exactly why there must be reasonable regulations on the abortion industry.”

KFL will continue to examine the data contained in the report and release additional findings in a statement early next week, particularly in regard to out-of-state abortion numbers.
