Today, Kansans for Life (KFL), the state’s leading and largest pro-life organization, released its 2026 legislative agenda.
“KFL’s legislative proposals for the 2026 session offer legislators the opportunity to enact strong public policies to address the state’s increasing abortion numbers. The focus is on continuing support for organizations that offer life-affirming options for pregnant women, strengthening informed consent protections for women, and protecting taxpayers from being compelled to subsidize the abortion industry,” said Jeanne Gawdun, KFL Director of Government Relations.
These legislative initiatives will:
- Continue the $3 million in funding for the Pregnancy Compassion Awareness Program, enabling pregnancy resource centers to continue and expand the many life-affirming services they offer to pregnant women and their families for up to 3 years after their children are born.
- Protect Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs) from discrimination by any state or local government entity or agency based on their refusal to perform or refer for abortions. PRCs in other states have been the subject of taxpayer-funded misinformation campaigns and even faced threats of legal action for not turning over information about their donors.
- Safeguard taxpayer dollars from subsidizing the abortion industry by disqualifying abortion facilities from serving as Medicaid providers, as allowed under the U.S. Supreme Court 2025 Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic ruling. Kansans should be assured that their tax dollars are not going to these sub-standard clinics.
- Update the Woman’s Right to Know informed consent law and strengthen pathways for women to seek justice when abortionists fail to obtain full informed consent. Women who have been denied information critical to making an informed decision about abortion often face obstacles when going up against the abortion industry in the courts.
In addition to advancing this legislative agenda, Kansans for Life will travel across the state this spring with its Aftermath Traveling Memorial — a powerful visual display honoring the 19,811 preborn babies lost to abortion in Kansas in 2024.
The memorial comes as newly released, long-delayed state statistics confirm that abortion numbers in Kansas have nearly tripled since 2019, underscoring the devastating consequences of the Kansas Supreme Court’s Hodes decision and the urgent need for life-affirming action.
KFL will issue regular updates to our supporters throughout the legislative session.
