Delayed 2023 KS Abortion Stats Show Another Heartbreaking Increase

Today, after more than six months of stonewalling, the Kelly/Toland Administration’s Department of Health and Environment has finally released 2023 abortion statistics for Kansas. It is worth noting that these statistics were intentionally held until after the election.

Danielle Underwood, KFL Director of Communications released the following statement:

“The surge of abortions in Kansas is a heartbreaking reminder of the abortion industry’s relentless targeting of vulnerable women who are no longer protected by enforceable informed consent laws or basic abortion facility-inspection and safety standards. Anyone who says this is what Kansans voted for is a liar and on the wrong side of history.”

Here is a breakdown of the most glaring portions of the report:

  • There were 19,467 total abortions reported in 2023, a 58% increase from 2022. To put these numbers into perspective, the number of lives lost could fill Wichita’s Intrust Bank Arena or even Allen Fieldhouse beyond capacity.
  • Each 8-hour workday, Monday through Saturday, 62 abortions were performed
  • 78% of abortions were performed on out of state residents
  • 67% were performed using dangerous chemical abortion pills
  • 600 fully formed preborn babies were brutally dismembered
  • 376 abortions were performed on minor girls, including 36 on young girls ages 10-14. Were these reported to law enforcement?

The bottom line is that women deserve better than to be exploited by a system that makes its money by putting their lives and futures at risk. We must keep moving forward to ensure our state does not continue to be the abortion destination of the Midwest.
